Before We Were Charlatans
While Charlatan Studios was officially formed in 2007, Douglas Lamore and Brian Mack have a long history of making films in one form or another, both collaboratively and independently. As high school classmates, they would work on video assignments together, using in camera editing techniques and tape to tape editing for projects like “Death In The Valley.”
Following graduation, Douglas Lamore’s interest in film grew as he attended Otis College of Art and Design and studied animation at the famed California Institute of the Arts. In 2002, Doug’s student animated short, “Kali’s Imaginary Friend,” landed in the jury selected Cal Arts Producer’s Show. It was around this time Douglas began to shift his focus to storytelling and directing. Brian and Douglas started working together on serious projects, completing their first feature length spec script titled “The Confessional” and shooting the short film “Urophobia.”
Only a small number of these early works remain. Both nostalgic and embarrassing, they are shown here examples of humble beginnings. While their films have come a long way, they are proud to hold onto their roots, still just two artists with a camera. View movies online below!
